A Michigan judge issued a temporary restraining order on Monday, directing prediction market operator Kalshi to suspend all sports-related contracts in the state. The ruling requires the exchange to implement a specific geolocation verification system before resuming operations.
Ingham Circuit Court Judge Rosemarie E. Aquilina outlined the conditions in a four-page document. Kalshi must comply with the location tracking mandate or face a daily fine exceeding $100,000. The order immediately blocks the platform from listing new sporting event contracts for residents within the jurisdiction.
Geolocation Verification Requirement
The temporary measure centers on location tracking protocols for users participating in sports predictions. Kalshi must demonstrate that its system accurately confirms participant positions within state boundaries. Compliance will determine whether the exchange can restore its sports trading categories.
