On September 7, representatives from seven gaming and betting companies joined municipal authorities to conduct an environmental cleanup in Pembroke. The coordinated effort removed 240 kilograms of waste from a regional road and a protected natural area.
Operation Scope and Logistics
More than 30 volunteers from Games Global, Kindred Group, Betsson, Bet365, 1Gamechanger, Flutter and NoID participated alongside council staff and local residents. The operation covered two distinct zones. The first segment targeted Triq Sant' Andrija between Graziella and the Pembroke Military Cemetery, a route with documented plastic accumulation. The second segment addressed the dry, rocky slopes of the Natura 2000 site south of St Clares College Pembroke Secondary school. LESA officers managed traffic flow while CleanMalta handled equipment logistics. Melita Football Club provided the central assembly point, with manager Johan facilitating venue access. The Grid Malta and iGEN supported the event structure, with iGEN overseeing the roadside endurance segment.Weather conditions featured elevated temperatures and humidity typical of late summer. The morning session concluded with a scheduled briefing and refreshment distribution. The Eastern Regional Council and Pembroke Local Council coordinated the municipal aspects of the cleanup.
The initiative was organized following discussions in May. Andrea Borg Brincat and Ryan Zammit outlined the September schedule to align with World Cleanup Month. The council initially proposed a series of environmental collaborations for the month, with the Pembroke event scheduled as the opening activity.
