Brazil’s online gaming and sports betting sector generated BRL 5.89 billion ($1.18 billion) in tax revenue between January and May 2026. The figure represents an 85.88% year-over-year increase compared to the same period in 2025.
Tax auditors Claudemir Malaquias and Marcelo Gomide presented the financial data to Revenue Secretary Robinson Barreirinhas. Maintaining the current monthly average would push annual revenue past BRL 14 billion ($2.8 billion). Authorities indicated that integrating unlicensed operators into the official regulatory framework could further expand public tax intake.
Tournament Activity and User Metrics
World Cup engagement contributed to the sector’s growth. Tracking data from Klavi shows bettors transferred approximately BRL 510 million ($102 million) to licensed platforms between the tournament opening and June 25. The Scotland fixture on June 24 alone recorded BRL 25 million ($5 million) in wagers. Daily betting volume rose 35% above the pre-tournament average, while the mean transaction value climbed 24% from BRL 185 to BRL 235 ($37 to $47). The analysis covers 1.2 million users across 187 authorized Brazilian operators.For comparison, the sector collected BRL 9.95 billion ($1.99 billion) across the full year of 2025.
